Under Armour apparel tested; Coldgear, Warmgear, Compression
fit
Nike apparel tested; Pro, FitDry
Tester #4 - Under Armour –
This is the 1st time I have purchased Under Armour tights and really
form-fitting workout outfits, but I found that I love them!
At first I thought they were going to make me uncomfortable to move about, but
it is not the case at all. They contour to my curves without over tightening and
actually feel nice and cool on my skin. The only problem is they show all the
floppy spots on my body as well, especially the mid-section. This makes me a
little more self-conscience, thus I attempt to “suck” everything in, but there
is nowhere to hide.
U.A. Coldgear –
Agility Capri Tight
Primo 1 Capri
Velocity Tank
Movement Bra
After taking dozens of spin classes in them, I am really impressed by the level
of comfort and how well it whisks the sweat off my skin. The fabrics are really
light and airy. Which makes me stay cool and not dripping wet after the
classes. This may sound funny, but I feel kind of like a professional athlete
when I have them on. The other down side of having Under Armour apparel is
the cost. They are generally pricier than other brands. Of course, they
are very well designed and nicely tailored and hopefully they last as long as
they cost.
U.A. Heatgear –
Subzero Mock
I am not too much an outdoor person and I mainly workout indoors. To be honest,
I have only worn the long sleeves a couple times in the cold morning before I
entered the gym. I could not keep it on during my workout. It was just too hot
for me. However, I do like it to keep me warm in the cooler weather in between
my car and the gym.
Tester #4 – Nike Pro –
I have always liked Nike workout outfits and one thing that I realized is Nike
does last longer than some of the less famous brands and still looks great after
a good amount of wears.
1. Fit Dry
a. PB Acceleration Capri
b. Perfect Fit Capri
c. Personal Best Long Reflective Sport Top
With Nike, I have only purchased apparel with the Fit Dry technology. They have
slightly more cotton feel to them, which is what I prefer. They also went with
me to a handful of the spin classes and they achieved what Nike promises, to
“Stay Dry and Stay Comfortable”.
Comparing to my other Nike outfits without any special fabric, Fit Dry apparel
keep me cooler and dryer. The less expensive cotton and other blends for all
other brands just stayed soaked and became heavy and pretty moist on my skin
throughout any strenuous exercise.
Nike offers a very wide range of style selections on their outfits. There are
tons of choices on the floor. In my opinion, it is definitely a big plus.
Under Armour –vs- Nike
They both have great workout outfits for using in the gym. I do not have
any complaints.
Pricing, Under Armour is a bit more expensive than Nike, thus giving Nike a
slight advantage.
Tester #2 – Nike Pro
Tested shirts, shorts, and underwear. Very impressed with the Nike Pro
line.
The Fit Dry shirts, I love the tight compression fit with the mesh side panels,
allowing for more breathability during intense workouts. The ability to
wisk the sweat from my body to the outer part of the shirt is great. Plus the
shirt does not have the heavy feel of a standard cotton shirt soaked with sweat,
thus the effect produces a lighter sensation during my workout. The shirt and
underwear both seem to add support to my muscles during the cardio workouts.
Plus, at the same time the material flexes throughout the many ranges of motion
while I workout. The shorts are lightweight and loose exactly what I look for
while on a run on the treadmill.
Tester #2 – Under Armour
Tested shirts and shorts. I have never purchased any under Armour products
before this test. I know now why they are in demand! The UA shirt
and shorts I got are indeed high quality. During my intense Cardio workouts on
the bike, elliptical, or treadmill, I go through a lot of movements and the UA
material stretches and recovers with those movements extremely well. At the end
of my workouts the Under Armour Products have performed quite well.
Under Armour –vs- Nike
I liked both, as both brands performed very well. If I were to purchase
more workout clothes, I believe that I would seek out either brand and find
which had the best price at that time. Maybe after a year of hard use, I
may see one brand that survives better than the other, but at 4 months heavy
use, I have not had any issues with either.
Tester # 3 – Under Armour
Tested and still using a wide assortment of UA gear. ColdGear, HeatGear, and
ColdGear Camo.
1st, using the HeatGear indoors running on Treadmills, using Upright bikes,
Recumbent bikes, Group Cycles, and Ellipticals. I found the compression
fight very comfortable, with good support, and found the cooling drying affect
very comfortable. The only dislike for the compression fit shirts, was
that it showed every “Fat” curve on my body, although this did add motivation to
exercise more and eat “better”. I love the running shorts, they were great
on all equipment, in fact, when using the heatgear I stayed cool and was not
always soaked in sweat. The only trouble I have with the compression fit
shirts, is trying to take them off when they are still moist.
2nd, using the ColdGear while running in 40 degree temps, I felt very
comfortable and I like the feel and comfort this line provides. I also,
spent many hours using the Camo ColdGear while hunting, and I will most likely
be buying a few more of these for next years hunting season. The Camo gear
I found very comfortable for temperatures in the high 40’s with no wind, wearing
them without a jacket. Movement was quiet and easy, and the camo pattern
seemed to work well for most areas.
I wore coldgear on a 48 hour Tuna Fishing trip in windy 50 degree weather, and
only had to put on a light jacket at night when the wind picked up, otherwise I
was quite comfortable and had the freedom of close fitting clothes that did not
“get in the way” when fighting tuna.
Tester # 3 – Nike Pro
Tested and still using a wide assortment of the Pro / Fit Dry “DRI-FIT” line.
Spent as many hours on the same exercise equipment used while wearing the UA
line. Again liked the feel and ease of movement. The material did not seem
to cool as well as the UA, but this is a fine line as the difference was very
little. The seams were slightly more noticeable than the UA, but the
feel of the Nike Pro under the arms was nicer. Yes, you can feel differences
between the two brands, but not so large as to only consider one line.
The long sleeve cold weather gear is very nice, but the UA feels a touch nicer
to against your skin.
Under Armour – vs – Nike
As far as selecting one brand over the other, they are so close, that I would
purchase in most cases the Nike Pro, as prices are a little better, if you do
some shopping. If you want “Status”, the UA line is the “In” brand at
present, this is not to say the UA line is inferior, as it is not, but if you
are going to purchase a good deal of exercise apparel to use often, the Price
will come in to play.
Finally, I recommend either brand for users who workout on a regular basis and /
or spend a good deal outdoors fishing, hunting, camping, or any activity where
clothing comfort adds to your sport.
